Designer Music

In association with Chase Infinite of Self Scientific and designer Kevin Sanchez we have created a special collection of fitteds called "Designer Music". This collection is inspired by the sounds and images of the Golden Era of Hip Hop and pays homage to the music and the culture. Each Designer Music release is produced in quantities limited to the year the song came out and sold only at select Elm Company dealers.

The Summertime fitted cap is the first to be released under the Designer Music line. The design is inspired by DJ Jazzy Jeff and Will Smith’s classic song “Summertime”. The quintessential Summer anthem came from their album Homebase, released in 1991. The infectious groove was sampled from classic funk band KOOL & THE GANG’s “Summer Madness”, from their 1974 album “Light of Worlds”, further cementing the seasonal theme. Will Smith’s cadence and rhyme scheme on the song gave rise to a rumor that Rakim actually ghostwrote the single.

The classic Summertime BBQ in the video seemed to capture the feel of the season. So we decided to take the inspiration from the BBQ scenes and created a hat that embodied the vibe of the song. The Summertime fitted features a traditional Red/White gingham pattern, an embroidered watermelon patch and a sublimated cloud print liner. The cap also features a quote from the classic Summer jam, “Just a little something break monotony”. This release will be limited to 91 total pieces and should be available very soon.

Robot Dog

Absolutely nothing to do with hats, but this thing is both very cool and VERY creepy at the same time.

I'm sure our government will waste no time turning it into some kind of war machine.

Banksy

Banksy made headlines again because a newspaper claims to have revealed his identity. There have been numerous articles over the weekend about the supposed "discovery", but I'll reserve judgement for now because there have been similar claims made before. You can come to your own conclusion.

Maloof Money Cup

The Maloof Money Cup went down last weekend at the Orange County Fairgrounds (nightmare). Luckily we had parking hooked up since we sponsored the event, because if we didn't, there's no way I would've dealt with that mess they call the Orange County Fair. It was stupid-crowded and the whole place smelled like Funnel Cake and Red Bull.

that's a damn fine fitted cap.......

As hyped out as this contest was, I'm not gonna lie, the street course was amazing. Such a waste that it was torn down a few days later, but hey, when you're rollin with "Maloof Money", that's how stuff goes down I guess (they probably light their fireplace with $100 bills). The skating was on point too, no doubt because of the money on the line as well. Best part was that the whole thing almost felt like watching a bunch of people skate a regular spot (with the added bonus of an annoying announcer).

Anyway, I would've had more photos but my camera broke. So check out maloofmoneycup.com for all the videos, photos, and useless information you could want or watch the broadcast on Sunday July 20th.

Summer Limited Release

The Hibiscus Flower has a traditional place not only in the Hawaiian culture, but also stands as a symbol of summer altogether. For ELMCOMPANY's Summer fitted release we've introduced this symbol in three colorways (Black, Gray, & Purple). Each cap features a wool blend crown and top visor paired with a cotton liner and under visor. The text of the front logo is embroidered in 3D while the hibiscus flower sits behind the text as flat embroidery. Our staple leaf logo has also been embroidered in the corner of the undervisor. This release is limited to only 144 pieces per style and will be available at only the finest ELMCOMPANY dealers.

Oh Canada

Canada is a hotspot right now. All I keep hearing about is how fun Camp of Champions is lately. Check out this video featuring Nick Dirks, Julien Haricot, and Jake Kuzyk from session B.
Also, Charles Reid has an ad coming out in SBC.

Are you sick of hearing about this kid yet? Get over it and get used to hearing his name again and again.

House of Blues

This past Friday June 27th 2008 I got the privilege to go backstage at one of the illest LA based hip hop shows you can ever go to: Dilated Peoples, Aceyalone, 88 Keys, Alchemist, with guest appearances by Chali 2na and Defari. The show was at the House of Blues, also known as the House of No Cameras Allowed, but I snuck mine in anyways.

Aceyalone right after his performance and right before my short term memory stop working

Yes, it's blatant logo placement

Once I dealt with all the bullshit outside, I headed straight backstage where anything goes and there was plenty of free Hennessy. After a few too many drinks and about an eighth of kush (thanks Alchemist), I stumbled my way to the stage to watch Aceyalone perform. I did try and get a video clip of him, but security wasn’t having it. But I’m slicker than them and VIP pass also means you get to watch the show from back stage... or rather, on stage, so I snuck in a few shots from backstage. After Aceyalone did his thing, Dilated completely killed it!!!!! Here's a little clip of them performing Love and War.

I only got to see the first part and ending part of their performance though, because halfway through the performance Aceyalone and I decide to go upstairs for a quick “break”. After Dilated was done we all headed back up stairs for one last drink before heading out. What a way to spend my birthday, backstage at the House of Pricks watching some legit LA hip hop! Thanks to Big Kid, Babs, Raka, Evidence, Aceyalone and Alchemist for hooking me up.

One of the all time illest producers, Alchemist, rocking Crooks and Castles

Oh yeah it wasn’t just fun and games either, we’ve got some surprises in the works for a few future projects. So keep an eye out!!!
